Family History

I have a subscription to Ancestry and I have assembled an extensive public family tree there (Barrell Family Tree). Some background to this research is given here.

Kemshaw Family

My grandfather, Frederick Henry Kemshaw, and his family came from Bridport, Dorset and later moved to Bristol.

In 1913/14 my grandfathers brother, David Kemshaw and family, emigrated to Canada.  The families kept in contact up to 1966. There are letters and photographs from Canada which detail the early history of the Kemshaw family in Canada.

My 1 x great-grandfather Walter Kemshaw came from Nottingham and there is a page explaining who I think he was. [Kemshall/Kemshaw Family History -Walter Kemshaw]

Barrell Family

My Barrell ancestry is from the Colchester, Essex, area in particular the villages of Langham, Dedham, Stratford St Mary and Ardleigh as well as Colchester itself.  [Barrell Family History in Essex]

My 2 x great grandfather George Barrell, born 1818 in Langham, came to live in Bath when he left the army in 1856 and married Hannah Humphries.  My 1 x great grandfather George Barrell was born there and the family later moved to Bristol where my grandfather, George Barrell, and father, George Frederick Barrell, were born.

During WW2 my parents moved out of Bristol to Breadstone, near Berkeley in Gloucestershire. This was next to the village of Halmore where my grandmother Elizabeth Kemshaw nee Davis Smith was born. I lived in Breadstone in the Berkeley Vale until the age of 12.  I went to primary school in Sharpness on the River Severn and secondary school in Dursley on the escarpment of the Cotswolds.
